K.Krishnayya, the 3rd son of K.Narayana Sherevgar and Manjamma, was born in the year 1887 at Kalyanpur in Udupi District. Narayan Sherevgar, a prominent land lord, owned large tracts of land, stretching for about a mile along the Kalyanpur river and ¼ mile wide. It contained coconut plantations and paddy fields. Krishnayya was good in academics. After studying Intermediate in Goverment College Mangalore (1905-1907), he proceeded to Madras (present day Chennai) and joined Madras Presidency College. Staying in a hotel in Triplicane, he studied and graduated in the year (??) with B.A. degree in Chemistry. Those days journey to Madras meant traveling by bullock cart from Kalyanpur to Mangalore, and then take a train to Madras. He was the first University Graduate from Kshathriya community. On his return, he joined Revenue Dept. as Revenue Inspector. He slowly moved up the ladder to become Dy.Thashildar/Thashildar and finally Dy.Collector. He passed all the tests including horse riding etc. His first posting as a Sub Collector (Dy.Collector??) was to Nagapattinam in Madras State. He served with distinction and was awarded Rao Sahib Title in 1944 – the first and the only one in the Community to earn such a distinguished title. Besides being the first in many fields, it is said that he was also the first in the Community to own an automobile, a Ford Model 1937. Krishanayya passed away in 1960 at Udupi at the age of 73.
